Aluminum 6061 Straight Tube 24"L
6061 Aluminum Straight Tube
Cut to 24" Lengths
Multiple sizes and thicknesses available!
Thin-wall 6061 aluminum tube (≈1.5–2.5 mm / ~0.060"–0.100")
A sweet spot between strength, weight, and workability. It’s used a lot when you need something structural but not massively load-bearing.
Here’s where it really shines:
🔧 Common Uses
🏗️ Light Structural Frames
-
Go-karts, minibikes
-
Small trailers
-
Equipment frames
-
Roof racks, cargo carriers
👉 Strong enough for structure, but way lighter than steel.
🚲 Automotive / Motorsports
-
Intake piping
-
Intercooler piping
-
Radiator overflow lines
-
Light chassis bracing (non-critical areas)
👉 Easy to TIG weld and corrosion-resistant.
🪑 Fabrication / Custom Builds
-
Furniture (tables, chairs, frames)
-
Display racks
-
DIY projects
✈️ Aerospace / Drones
-
Structural members where weight savings matter a lot
⚙️ Pros
-
Lightweight (about 1/3 the weight of steel)
-
Corrosion resistant (no rust headaches)
-
Good strength-to-weight ratio
-
Easy to machine and cut
-
TIG weldable (especially with 6061-T6, though heat affected zone softens)
⚠️ Limitations
-
Lower strength than steel for the same thickness
-
Can dent or bend easier under concentrated loads
-
Heat from welding reduces strength in the weld zone unless re-treated
-
Not ideal for:
-
Heavy weight-bearing pins/pegs
-
High-impact areas
-
Tight-radius bending (can crack if not annealed)
-
🧠 Quick Rule of Thumb
-
1.5 mm (~.063") → lightweight, cosmetic/light structural
-
2.0 mm (~.079") → general-purpose structural
-
2.5 mm (~.098") → stronger, closer to “real load-bearing” but still light-duty vs steel
